IBM's commitment to supporting the communities in which we operate and building our pipeline of future engineers is our goal.
What is NEM?
Each February, hundreds of Oregon K-12 classrooms are energized with engineer presenters through the National Engineers Month (NEM) program. Students get excited to excel in math and science while learning about the rewards and opportunities of being an engineer.
Since 1995, the Business Education Compact has managed this high-impact event, inviting local companies to participate and bring engineers into Oregon classrooms. In addition to engineering education, NEM infuses student learning with relevance and ignites the imagination of our future engineers!
1995 to 2009: NEM Program Impact
- 248,000 students impacted
- 8,300 classrooms reached
- 4,900 engineer presenters
NEM is an extension of National Engineers Week, www.eweek.org, a nationwide program founded in 1951 by the National Society of Professional Engineers. The program is dedicated to raising public awareness of engineers' positive contributions to our quality of life.
