What happens to my application after I send it to the BEC? Each application is processed as soon as it is received. At that time we may request additional details pertaining to your application that will help us in the matching process.
How do you decide which applications to send to the businesses? The matching process includes a review of your skills and qualifications, the type of environment and experience you requested, the number of weeks you are available and pay stipulations mentioned on the application.
What happens after the BEC sends an application to a business? The BEC will send out applications to various businesses until a placement is secured. The business will choose which applicants are to be interviewed and make the final selection for the internship position. Applicants not selected will be notified.
What are my chances of obtaining an internship? This is a competitive process and one where there are generally more applicants than positions available because there is a far greater demand for internships than the business community provides. Business projects vary in complexity, duration, and required skills sets and the goal is to find the best match based on employer needs. Keep in mind that the employer makes the hiring decision.
What happens if I am selected by a business, but I would rather wait to see if another business wishes to hire me before I accept? We strongly suggest that you consider a first offer if it meets most of your criteria. By holding out for an offer from a different company you may run the risk of missing out on an internship altogether if another offer does not materialize. You should carefully weigh your decision before you decide to wait for a better offer. Clearly, do not accept a position that does not meet your needs. If you truly believe you have made an inappropriate decision, please contact the BEC to discuss your concerns.
