Wet and Wetter Water

Materials:

  • Two dixie cups

  • Laundry Detergent

  • Small cotton balls (about the size of a small pea), or 1/2" lengths of yarn or string.

Procedure:

  • Fill both Dixie Cups with water. Label them "A" and "B"

  • Into cup "A" mix a little detergent. Do not stir up suds.

  • Drop a cotton ball or string into cup "A" and cup "B" at the same time.

Discussion:

  • What happened to the cotton balls?

  • Was there any difference in the "wetting" time between "A" and "B"?

  • Why do we add detergents in the family wash?

  • Can water be made "wetter" than "wet"?
