Water
Reference: Jeff
Parkhurst
Materials:
Procedure:
-
Poke many holes in the
Dixie cup with the pin.
-
First place a layer of
coarse gravel slightly larger than perforations.
-
Next spread a layer (1/2
to 3/4") of gravel and sand.
-
In another container mix
a quantity of dirty water containing soil, sawdust, etc.
Discussion:
-
What is the advantage to
a filter on the city water supply?
-
Would this filter take
out germs?
-
Would stream water
always be pure even if it flows through sand and rocks?
-
After filtering water
what could be done to insure its safety for drinking purposes?
